Ever feel uncomfortable in a new situation? Me too.

I was thinking back about a conversation I had with a mentor while I was in undergrad, she told me “find comfort in the discomfort”. I totally understood what she meant at the time, but was unable to truly live that day to day. Most of the time I just felt, well, uncomfortable.

I’m someone who most of my life have looked to grow and learn new things. Yet, I always felt my best when I was the expert at something, the “go-to” person. Experience  is great, I’m not knocking that- but you lose out on a lot if you’re not the novice at times.

Being in a new situation like a new school, job, or learning opportunity, forces you to really think about what’s in front of you and not just run on autopilot. You have to ask questions, do research, and ask for help. All things that people don’t always feel good about doing. What if you are bad at it? What if you fail? What if no-one likes you?

If you can relate to this, I hope you can find some comfort in knowing that the whole world has experienced this, and you’ll never grow or learn anything new if you don’t go through it. If you’ve been struggling with setting goals or new experiences, we should chat
