How many no’s make a yes?

I came across a quote from an Apple event in 2013, that really stuck with me.

“There are a thousand no’s, for every yes.”

What if we applied this to our Career goals? No human is perfect, and no-one has the perfect career. We all expect there to be victories and losses, and sometimes unexpected set backs.

What do you do when you feel like you have been trying for so long to make a change? It is so hard to not feel defeated, when you have completed countless interviews, and university applications, taken the GMAT three times and not gotten a better score #truestory, or gone on your 50th first-date. For most of us it won’t literally be a thousand, but you get the sentiment.

A thousand no’s for every yes.

That is a thousand no’s that teach you to ask the right questions on that interview, a thousand no’s to find that first date that matches you (we used to call it kissing a lot of frogs 😉 and a thousand no’s to help you learn enough about yourself, so that you know which situations you should stick out, and know when to walk away.

When you get a thousand no’s, and you feel stuck in the trenches of it, setting smaller goals can help you feel like you’ve got a handle on it. Eventually, after those thousand figurative no’s, you will get your final yes to your end goal. Maybe it’s not on your timeline, or maybe it’s not the goal you originally set, but maybe it’s the perfect one. I hope when you want to get started on setting those goals, you drop me a line
